The Story Behind The Lavarack Rooms: Why We Created This Space.
When we started The Lavarack Rooms, it wasn’t just about opening another psychology practice—it was about creating something deeply personal and meaningful. We, Maddison Bracey and Anna Howlett, had a shared vision: to build a space where psychologists and mental health professionals could do their best work, free from the limitations often found in traditional private practice settings.
A Space That Grew With Us
As our careers evolved, we realised that the spaces we worked in weren't growing with us. We had spent years building our skills, supporting our clients, and refining our approach to psychology, yet we often found ourselves in environments that felt limiting—rigid lease agreements, uninspiring rooms, and a lack of connection with other professionals.
Anna felt this first and took the leap to create her own practice, starting with a single therapy room that gave her the flexibility and autonomy she craved. Meanwhile, Maddison was searching for a space that truly represented her—a place that aligned with her values and the way she wanted to practice.
When Maddison joined Anna, it became clear that they could build something bigger together. They transformed that single room into The Lavarack Rooms, renovating and expanding it into a space designed specifically for psychologists—a place that could grow with them and support others in the field.
Together, they saw the potential to create not just a practice, but a thriving community, where psychologists could feel at home and do their best work. And they knew that if they needed this, others likely did too.
A Dream Built on Friendship
The Lavarack Rooms is more than just a business—it’s the baby of two best friends who have worked together for a decade. Over the years, we’ve supported each other through every challenge and milestone, both personally and professionally. Creating this space felt like the natural next step in our journey, blending our shared passion for psychology with our deep understanding of what makes a practice truly thrive. This isn’t just a workplace for us; it’s a reflection of our friendship, our values, and our belief in doing things differently.
Building a Space That Feels Like Home
The Lavarack Rooms is our answer to those frustrations. We designed it with psychologists in mind, creating an environment that is professional yet warm, private yet connected, structured yet flexible.
Every detail—from the room layouts to maintaining our own practices—was designed with the needs of therapists and their clients at the forefront. Our goal was to create a refuge from the clinical and corporate, a space that feels welcoming and supportive for both practitioners and the people they help.
A Community, Not Just a Rental Space
Beyond just offering beautifully designed rooms, we wanted to foster connection and collaboration. Private practice can be isolating, but it doesn’t have to be. We envision The Lavarack Rooms as a place where professionals can share knowledge, support each other, and feel a sense of belonging—whether that’s through casual chats in the hallway or formal events we plan to host together.
The Bigger Vision
This business isn’t just about rooms—it’s about creating a sustainable, fulfilling way to work as psychologists. We believe that when practitioners are supported, their clients benefit too. By offering a space where professionals feel at ease, we’re contributing to better mental health care in our community.
The Lavarack Rooms is a dream turned reality, built from our own experiences and passion for psychology. We’re so proud of what we’ve created and can’t wait to see it grow.
If you’re a psychologist looking for a space that truly understands your needs, we’d love to welcome you. This is more than just a room—it’s a place to belong.
